Oleśnicki Dom Spotkań z Historią

DSC_1153 (1)A German poet Karl von Holtei (1798 – 1880) used to visit his step-mother and sister in Oleśnica. He contributed to setting up a still existing nursery school in Kilińskiego Street. He was friendly towards Polish people, and a friend of Adam Mickiewicz. He was the author of a  vaudeville about Tadeusz Kościuszko An Old Commander [Stary Wódz], a melodrama Stanisław, devoted to the king of Poland Stanislaw August Poniatowski and the Bar Confederation, and a poem The Last Pole [Ostatni Polak].
